Electric Ladies

Selkie Pre-Spring 2022
More than a feeling. Electric Ladies

Electric Ladies

It was the beginning of 2021, and we were looking ahead at another distanced year- masked up and missing our family and friends. The idea of devoting this collection to 1970's groupies was exciting, the opposite experience to 2021- one of crowded concerts, a backstage buzz, endless hugs and free love. Inspired by Pamela De Barres, a famous groupie who recounts this era with beautiful detail in all her stories, the thrill of rockstars, music, drugs, hotels and young love in her book, "I'm With the Band: Confessions of a Groupie" it is a celebration of absolute freedom.

"A lot of people try to darken the 60s and early 70s, and my story is very light. Of course there's heartbreak, but I'm very blessed with an optimistic nature. I would bounce back and get my heart broken again and bounce back and get it broken again. The fact is that we all get our heart broken, I just got mine broken by Jimmy Page. Everybody goes through it, and I think that's also what people related to- the humanity that I was putting on the page. The reality of being a young woman growing up in Hollywood in the thick of the madness."-Pamela De Barres, Vice magazine.

This collection is an acid trip through a decade bolstered by it's awesome "loose" women, the GTOs defying societys sexual boundaries and rules for the female experience. Jenni Dean, Emmaretta Marks, The Plaster Casters, and Genie (a band tailor) are some of the muses that brought this collection to fruition. It's an explosion of groovy prints and electric colors, a chance to adorn yourself in flowers, put on a record, and watch the wallpaper spin as you run your fingers through brown shag carpet. A 70's moment so palpable it will send you right back in time, no backstage pass needed.
